Ranking all 32 NFL coaching staffs ahead of the 2025 season
Who's on top? Where might vibes be the worst? Which new staff has the most intrigue?
To kick off our offseason outlook for the NFL I want to take stock of our coaches, including their coordinators, and see where each team stacks up.
When I look at coaching staffs in my modeling, they do not bring as much impact as actual players but I think there is an obvious competitive advantage having some of the staffs near the top of my list versus the bottom. When I am ranking these staffs I look at how a head coach has historically performed, their ability to squeeze potential out of a player, how they have hired or improved their staffs, and, of course, what they have done lately. I also give some additional points for their coordinators, but I could only justify ranking the top 16 OC’s and the top 21 DC’s because some of these guys have not shown enough to be given value.
Finally, I have grouped these teams into tiers, so if you say “well actually, you’re 18th ranked team would make more sense as the 15 spot” you will get this response from me.
Without further ado, let’s get ranking szn underway!
** Tier 1: Top of their game - KC **
1 - Kansas City Chiefs
Head Coach: Andy Reid (1 HC of 32)
Offensive Coordinator: Matt Nagy (T-10th)
Defensive Coordinator: Steve Spagnuolo (2nd)
Even though Kansas City didn’t reach the pinnacle for the 3rd(!!) year in a row, I still have to place them as the best coaching staff in the NFL. They have had the consistency over the past couple of years that no other organization can match, and I do not see a big enough dip happening in 2025 where I would say they are not clearly on top. Andy Reid still has his fast ball still, and time and again gets unheralded player like Justin Watson, Noah Gray or Kareem Hunt in position to make winning plays.
Coordinator wise, Matt Nagy would get some points in my opinion. I was never the biggest fan of his in Chicago, where he looked overwhelmed continuously, but he has not cratered whatever piece of the KC offense he touches. On the defensive side Spag’s is one of the best at drawing up pressures and has shown the ability to know when to call up the perfect play.
** Tier 2: Tier 1 if it all comes together – PHI, BAL, BUF **
2 – Philadelphia Eagles
Head Coach: Nick Siriani (3)
Offensive Coordinator: Kevin Patullo (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Vic Fangio (1st)
Man, what a difference a year makes. Everyone knows what I am about to say, but I am going to say it anyway. At this point last year, Philadelphia fans were calling for Siriani’s job, he was going full Philly during the season trying to fight fans & he overhauled his staff. Then he TOTALLY REDEEMED HIMSELF, winning 14 games, the division, & the championship.
Staff wise, we will see what new OC Kevin Patullo has to offer. He was on the staff last year, so he at least knows how the sausage gets made. On the defensive side, they have my top ranked coordinator in Vic Fangio. Last year’s defense really turned up the heat as the season wore on, and Vic got these young, athletic players in the right spot to make plays.
3 – Baltimore Ravens
Head Coach: John Harbaugh (4)
Offensive Coordinator: Todd Monken (T-1st)
Defensive Coordinator: Zach Orr (T-9th)
Another one of the old guards sits near the top of the rankings. John has shown time and again his ability to adapt when his team shows a weakness, and the past couple of years has given Baltimore fans hope for years to come by putting young players in position to succeed, along with finding old players and putting them in the correct spots to help the team.
Another big brain move by Baltimore is not hiring an OC who is less than 30 years old and potentially poachable by other franchises. Todd Monken has brought Baltimore into the 21st century and made Lamar a consistent MVP candidate. Zach Orr had a pretty good first year as DC, though the hire of the old DC (Dean Pees) as an advisor halfway through the season which gave me concerns. I’m willing to give Orr a few golf claps for having a good unit, but next year might be the true test if Pees is not around.
4 – Buffalo Bills
Head Coach: Sean McDermott (T-5th)
Offensive Coordinator: Joe Brady (T-1st)
Defensive Coordinator: Bobby Babich (T-15th)
Buffalo playoff appearances since Sean McDermott was hired in 2017 – 7. Buffalo playoff appearances 2000 to 2016 – 0. Sean has shown the ability to give Buffalo a consistent floor of competing for the division, but unfortunately in the Josh Allen-era they have not been able to get over the hump.
One reason I have Buffalo in tier 2 and not tier 3 is the coordinators around him. I believe Joe Brady is next up in the boy wonder coaching search. He has shown the ability to create success when there are pieces around him, and this year he brought very innovative tactics around extra lineman in formation along with getting the most out of players like Skakir & Cook. DC Bobby Babich is hard to grade because McDermott is a defensive coach as well, but I think he deserves credit after his first season. Buffalo dealt with quite a bit of turnover last offseason on defense and this year the unit performed admirably.
** Tier 3: Always the bridesmaid, never the bride – GB, LAR, DEN, MIN, PIT, SF
5 – Green Bay Packers
Head Coach: Matt LaFleur (T-5th)
Offensive Coordinator: Adam Stenavich (T-6th)
Defensive Coordinator: Jeff Hafley (T-6th)
Matt LaFleur just wins (in the regular season). A career winning percentage of 67% puts him in the top 15 all-time. Early in his head coaching career you could lean on him having a HOF QB as a reason for not believing in his talent, but since Rodger left Green Bay the team has not bottomed out. He has also done this with a very young core of contributors in the past couple of years, showing his ability to teach and find the best situations to put players in. Now if only he could figure it out in the playoffs.
Adam Stenavich is not a household name when it comes to OC’s but he has been in this position since 2022 so I have to give some points for longevity and performance by the offense (even if Matt calls the plays). His background is in the O-Line and Green Bay has found many diamonds in the rough there. Jeff Hafley made headlines last year by leaving his head coaching job at Boston College to become a coordinator in the NFL. NIL will do that to a person, but 2024 was a pleasant surprise for the Packers & I see potential in what Hafley can bring.
6 – Los Angeles Rams
Head Coach: Sean McVay (T-2nd)
Offensive Coordinator: Mike LaFleur (T-10th)
Defensive Coordinator: Chris Shula (T-15th)
We are now entering the portion of the program where we start talking about the Washington Redskins coaching staff of 2013. McVay has had more success than LaFleur’s his career but the past couple of years I feel like these teams are neck-and-neck with each other in terms of performance and success. Sean has shown the ability to turn the average to above average players (specifically 5th round picks in Puka Nacua & Kyren Williams) into superstars in his offense. This offense is also so smash-mouth and it gives me warm fuzzies every time I watch it.
You can’t escape LaFleur’s in this article. Mike has been an OC since 2021, and thought McVay is the final decision maker I have to give some points for what Mike does as a coach. Chris Shula had a successful first year as the DC, and he elevated a lot of young talent to make up for the fact that one of the best defensive players of all time retired from this team with some value left to give, props.
7 – Denver Broncos
Head Coach: Sean Payton (T-8th)
Offensive Coordinator: Joe Lombardi (T-10th)
Defensive Coordinator: Vance Joesph (5th)
Back-to-back Sean’s! Sorry, what a year for Denver. I thought they would be a plucky team that may get a couple folks, but they made the freaking playoffs with a rookie QB and an overall nameless offense. Sounds like Sean Payton still has some tricks up his sleeve, and I am excited to see what they do now that they know they have a QB they can work with.
Joe Lombardi has been OC for a handful of team, and though he has had up’s and down’s as a coordinator (okay, maybe more down’s; see getting fired by Detroit in 2015 & Los Angeles in 2023) he is still kicking and whatever value he brought for Sean Payton in 2024 was worth something to me. Where the coordinator points really come in is Vance Joesph. It takes a lot of humility to go back to an organization that fired you years ago, but there are only 32 of these jobs. Last year Vance lead one of the nastier defenses in the league and put Patrick Surtain in position to win DPOY.
T-8 – Minnesota Vikings
Head Coach: Kevin O’Connell (11th)
Offensive Coordinator: Wes Phillips (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Brian Flores (3rd)
Speaking of team’s coming out of nowhere. My model last year had Minnesota as one of the more undervalued teams heading into the season, but I wasn’t expecting to cash a ticket in week 10. KOC has created the perfect environment for offenses to succeed in the regular season, orchestrating a perfect mix of pass and run plays. My model looks at coach’s records since 2020, and thought KOC has not coaches all of those years, he owns the 4th best winning percentage!
Wes was close to earning points for this team, but I just don’t think I have seen quite enough from him yet to give those out, but another year like last would do it. Brian Flores must be the top DC in my enjoyment index. I could LITERALLY watch him draw up blitz plays all day; it is a thing of beauty. The only concern I have with him is it seems like teams slowly figure out the pressure scheme as the season goes on, so he needs a secondary move to be able to play.
T-8 – Pittsburgh Steelers
Head Coach: Mike Tomlin (T-8th)
Offensive Coordinator: Arthur Smith (T-6th)
Defensive Coordinator: Teryl Austin (8th)
There is something to say about having a consistent product. That thing to say is Mike Tomlin, and the Steeler’s, are that product. Steelers wins last four seasons – 10, 10, 9, 9. Mike will make sure when the 3rd quarter ends and the players put up those fours that you will have to watch and see what happens. If I were to guess, he doesn’t have many more years of this lipstick on a pigs act, or whatever analogy you want to use but if I’m a bottom tier team I am praying Pittsburgh fires him so I can get him.
Arthur Smith made Russell Wilson look average for most of the season, that is enough in my book to say he can still put an offense in a winning situation. Here is to hoping Pittsburgh can give him more to work with next season! Teryl Austin doesn’t get enough love for what he has done in Pittsburgh since 2022. He has extended this teams window by continuing to build up a great pass rush, and kept the secondary from melting down.
T-8 – San Francisco 49ers
Head Coach: Kyle Shanahan (T-5th)
Offensive Coordinator: Klay Kubiak (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Robert Saleh (T-6th)
Welcome back to our Washington 2013 coaching staff section, it was a nice break while it lasted. Kyle Shanahan had a year to forget in 2024. Injuries are my main reason he does not fall out of this grouping. He managed to squeeze 6 wins out of a team with no help from the Christian McCaffery I know and love, Brandon Aiyuk and his tore ACL midway through the season, and the top OT in the league dealt with an ankle injury most of the year. Next year will be better, and I will be happy I kept Kyle at the top of my rankings.
Klay will be a new OC in 2025, and honestly Kyle will still run the offense. It will take a couple years of good Niners play for me to put Klay in a ranked spot (thought lineage counts for something?). I am excited for Robert Saleh to be back in the Bay, flexing on the sideline after a big 3rd down stop (I really hope this NYJ experience did not suck the joy from him). It’s an older Niners defense, but he will know what buttons to press.
** Tier 4: Bar room brawlers + Stefanski – DET, WAS, CLE, LAC **
T-11 – Detroit Lions
Head Coach: Dan Campbell (T-8th)
Offensive Coordinator: John Morton (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Kelvin Sheppard (NR)
This year will help me decide how I feel about Dan. I think he is a smart coach, does a good job of getting his team on the same page, and is an overall great culture creator; but last year I had the Lion’s ranked much higher because of the coordinators that are now gone. If he can find similar success, I will think of him in a similar mold to what Nick Siriani is trying to do as a CEO type coach.
I do not have much on these coordinators but listen to the head coaches new OC John Morton has worked for: Bill Callahan, Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton, Pete Carroll, and Jon Gruden. Some sort of coaching skills must have rubbed off on him. Kelvin Sheppard does not have much coaching experience (been coaching since 2021), but he was in the league since 2011 as a player, and he is young and hungry which is the type on energy Dan Campbell loves.
T-11 – Washington Commanders
Head Coach: Dan Quinn (T-13th)
Offensive Coordinator: Kliff Kingsbury (3rd)
Defensive Coordinator: Joe Whitt (NR)
We had back-to-back Sean’s, now back to back Dan’s. The NFL needs to find some more original names. On to Washington, I think Dan Quinn has put himself in a good position to rise up these rankings after last season surprise 12 wins. Now he must deal with a potential turnover filled offseason, as of this writing I have Washington as a top 10 team in terms of unsigned contribution. I think the right moves will continue to help show Washington made the correct hire.
Kliff Kingsbury did wonders with the offense last year. Jayden Daniels looks like a top 5 QB in his offense, and outside of Terry McLaurin there were not any above average players in this offense. No big deal, Washington was 6th in offensive DVOA. Joe Whitt hasn’t done enough as the DC to show me he should be ranked; he did done good things as a secondary coach in Dallas but there is still room for improvement.
T-11 – Cleveland Browns
Head Coach: Kevin Stefanski (T-13th)
Offensive Coordinator: Tommy Rees (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Jim Schwartz (4th)
This one I am nervous about…there is potential that this coaching staff is not around mid-way through next season (at no fault of their own). The Watson trade has put Kevin Stefanski in a bad spot, and now Myles Garrett is asking out (woof). I still think Stefanski is not a bottom tier coach, he got some combination of Watson and Joe Flacco in the playoffs in 2023 & leveraged a good Baker season to get in the playoffs in 2020 and win a playoff game!
This will be Tommy Rees’ first year as OC in Cleveland, but Stefanski will most likely be calling plays. This is another situation where I will need to see a couple years of good play in Cleveland before Tommy gets some points (even though you always love to see an average college football player making his way as a coach). Jim Schwartz had this defense humming in 2023, but 2024 was a down year. With Garrett potentially not on this team in 2025 we will see if he is worth this rankings (I feel more pessimistic about the Brown’s as I wrote this).
14 – Los Angeles Chargers
Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh (12th)
Offensive Coordinator: Greg Roman (T-6th)
Defensive Coordinator: Jesse Minter (T-9th)
Though they did not make the playoffs in 2024, I would consider it a successful season in Charger-land last year. The internet was bullish about what Jim could do returning to the NFL and he showed that he still has what it takes to motivate and turn around a team’s fortune. Now how can continue to build this team as they retool this roster (this time on the defensive end).
Greg Roman has been an OC for 11 seasons, for 4 different teams. That staying power is worth something to my model, but each year the rhetoric seems to be more and more against his offensive philosophy. Jesse Minter on the other hand has just completed his rookie campaign as a DC and I would consider it a success. He has now shown the ability to coach winning football in college (Michigan) and the NFL (Baltimore & Los Angeles). If this continues for a couple more years I could see head coaching interviews in his future.
** Tier 5: Nobody’s perfect – CIN, LV, MIA, NE, SEA, HOU, TB, IND, ARI **
15 – Cincinnati Bengals
Head Coach: Zac Taylor (T-13th)
Offensive Coordinator: Dan Pitcher (T-13th)
Defensive Coordinator: Al Golden (T-9th)
We have now reached the mid-pack of our coach rankings and there is nobody I think exemplifies this quite like Zac Taylor. You want a losing record as a coach in the regular season, check. You want a winning record as a coach in the postseason, check. So essentially, NFL teams, don’t let Zac make the dance and we are good. Jokes aside, he keeps the offense in a good spot; I think the offense should perform this way, if not better, so I wouldn’t push back if Bengals fans want a new head ball coach after this season.
I threw Dan a couple of points for being a part of such a successful offense last season, and there aren’t many OC’s that make it past 3 years on the job so you got to give points when it makes sense. Al Golden created a really solid defense in South Bend and I am excited to see how his system translates to the NFL. He may be dealt a losing hand though with how the Bengals offseason has started.
T-16 – Las Vegas Raiders
Head Coach: Pete Carroll (T-18th)
Offensive Coordinator: Chip Kelly (T-4th)
Defensive Coordinator: Patrick Graham (NR)
Welcome back Pete! Can’t wait to watch you chew that gum on the sidelines. I think at this point in his career he knows how to build a foundation for a team, which is exactly what Las Vegas desperately needs. He will keep the players engaged, which gives me the smallest bit of Jim Harbaugh-Chargers vibes.
Chip Kelly knows how to call an offense. He may never be a head coach again, but I think he can build a solid offense for a rookie or veteran QB with the tools around him. For someone who has been a DC at 3 different locations since 2019 I am not impressed by Patrick Graham’s output. He is one of the few longer-term coordinators that I did not reward points to.
T-16 – Miami Dolphins
Head Coach: Mike McDaniel (T-16th)
Offensive Coordinator: Frank Smith (T-13th)
Defensive Coordinator: Anthony Weaver (T-15th)
I can’t quit the Dolphins. I think this offense looks so crisp when they have the right QB playing, so I did not knock Mike for last season down year. I also think he has shown the ability to get the ball in his playmaker’s hands, but it was concerning how much that dropped off when they were on their backup QB.
Frank Smith gets a small number of points for being an OC for a moderately successful offense for the past couple of years. I still don’t see enough credit going to him to say he deserves more. Anthony Weaver on the other hand did the best with what he was given in his first year as DC. Multiple injuries could have torpedoed them to the bottom of the league, but they were very solid and should continue to get better with more comfort in this system.
18 – New England Patriots
Head Coach: Mike Vrabel (T-18th)
Offensive Coordinator: Josh McDaniels (T-6th)
Defensive Coordinator: Terrell Williams (NR)
Back to back LaFleur’s, back to back Sean’s, back to back Dan’s, now back to back Mike’s. NFL figure it out man! I for one am excited to see Vrabel back on the sidelines looking like he is annoyed to be there. Outside of that, he is built from a similar cloth as Mike Tomlin. When it gets to the 4th quarter you know this team will make the game a rock fight and potentially pull a win out they don’t deserve.
Hiring Josh McDaniels is a decent move. He has had enough opportunities as a head coach that if he succeeds in New England there is a decent change he does not get a job and can continue to grow Drake Maye and this offense. Terrell Williams is a good hire as well, Detroit’s defensive line has shown flashes over the years, and it is worth taking a chance on someone who might have something.
T-19 – Seattle Seahawks
Head Coach: Mike Macdonald (T-18th)
Offensive Coordinator: Klint Kubiak (T-13th)
Defensive Coordinator: Aden Durde (T-15th)
ANOTHER MIKE (I’m totally not doing this on purpose)!? Macdonald showed enough in his first season as the head ball coach to show potential. His team is still very much a work in progress, which is apparent because throughout the year they were constantly moving parts around the defense. I am intrigued to see what he does in year 2 on defense.
Klint has been an OC for 2 years for 2 different teams, and he did not show bottoming out potential, in fact Seattle had a very exciting offense. I’m intrigued. Aden was very similar to Klint, showing potential in his first year as a DC. He is still behind Mike in running the defensive show, but I think there is potential here as well.
T-19 – Houston Texans
Head Coach: DeMeco Ryans (T-18th)
Offensive Coordinator: Nick Caley (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Matt Burke (T-9th)
DeMeco had a disappointing year after making the playoffs in his rookie campaign but consider that a disappointing means winning 10 games again. Many teams would take that kind of disappointment. I think he has built some sustainable in Houston, and if he gets an OC hire correct, this team has an ability to jump up any offseason list.
Nick Caley is a new OC, coming from the Los Angeles tree. It will be interesting how Houston improves with a similar offense but a different voice. Matt Burke has helped DeMeco lead a very solid unit 2 years in a row. If this continues, I would not be surprised if he gets a job as a DC somewhere else where he can show what he has.
T-19 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Head Coach: Todd Bowles (T-16th)
Offensive Coordinator: Josh Grizzard (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: N/A
Todd Bowles is the Zac Taylor of defensive focused head coaches. That is the only thing that comes to my mind when thinking of him. I feel like you never see him talk during a game, he is the first coach I think of when making brutal mistake at the end of the game comes to mind. I had to keep him in this tier because he seems to have built a solid program, as much as that differs from everything else I wrote.
This staff is not exciting either. Gizzard is their new OC but was an internal hire. Maybe he will be able to call just as good of a game as Liam Coen, but I’m not feeling optimistic (if that wasn’t obvious). *checks notes* They don’t even have a named Defensive Coordinator on the staff!?!? Well, count me as a hater this season, I guess.
T-22 – Indianapolis Colts
Head Coach: Shane Steichen (22nd)
Offensive Coordinator: Jim Bob Cooter (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Lou Anarumo (T-9th)
We are getting to a rough area of the article folks. Bear with me, and you might just see me get annoyed again (I had to Google this, it is bear not bare, wut). This will not be one of the coaches I am annoyed with, I think Shane is showing signs of promise with this team. There are young players playing well for him, but it is concerning that an offensive focused coach is struggling to develop a QB.
How is Jim Bob Cooter still an OC in this league (I didn’t think I would get annoyed with the Colts)? He has not been relevant since he was in Green Bay in 2015. Maybe he and Shane became good drinking buddies on that 2021 Philadelphia team. Lou had a down year last year, after having head coaching rumors in 2023. I am curious how he does with this interesting defense.
T-22 – Arizona Cardinals
Head Coach: Jonathan Gannon (T-23rd)
Offensive Coordinator: Drew Petzing (T-4th)
Defensive Coordinator: Nick Rallis (NR)
Aye, the 2023 Philadelphia graduates back-to-back, society is healing. I like Gannon as a head coach well enough to keep him out of the more bottom tiers. I feel like he coached a good defense last year. It seemed like this team was making big plays in competitive games with players I had to Google after the facts.
Having Drew as a top 5 OC might seem crazy to some, but I think he has quietly put together a really good running game. He also seems to keep the offense in rhythm and uses Kyler Murray well. Nick Rallis probably won’t get points in this model until Jonathan Gannon leads a top 5 defense.
** Tier 6: Ruh Roh – NYG, ATL **
24 – New York Giants
Head Coach: Brian Daboll (T-23rd)
Offensive Coordinator: Mike Kafka (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Shane Bowen (NR)
(stay positive Aaron…for the people) Brian Daboll has shown enough to stay a coach for 3 years. I think he has shown glimpses in those 3 years, and I know Daniel Jones was their guy for most of that time. He did have chances to play many other players, and all of those were usually disappointing offensive losses. I feel like if he was a top half offensive coach there would be better glimpses.
Mike Kafka is in the same spot for me. He has been the coordinator since 2022, so he owns blame just like Brian. Shane Brown was very close to earning points. I feel like I have seen positives from this Giants defense over the past couple of years, color be intrigued.
25 – Atlanta Falcons
Head Coach: Raheem Morris (T-23rd)
Offensive Coordinator: Zac Robinson (T-13th)
Defensive Coordinator: Jeff Ulbrich (NR)
Poor Raheem, he doesn’t seem to deserve this after winning 8 games in his first season in Atlanta. I just didn’t seem impressed any time I had the Falcons on. That could be because of a still healing / perpetually injured Kirk Cousins. Next year I could see having Raheem higher on this list.
Zac Robinson was impressive in his first year as OC. I thought Brian Robinson look good, and Drake London was the go-to guy I wanted to see (Kyle Pitts should probably be thought of differently). I was going to give some points for Jeff Ulbrich because he coached the Jets defense and got some run as HC. Then I thought about it more, he was only a DC for 2 years and when Saleh was let go the Jets defense sunk like a rock.
** Tier 7: Show me something good – CAR, CHI, JAC, NYJ, NO, TEN, DAL **
T-26 – Carolina Panthers
Head Coach: Dave Canales (T-26th)
Offensive Coordinator: Brad Idzik (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Ejiro Evero (T-15th)
Dave Canales wasn’t terrible considering expectations. This seemed like the worst roster to start the season, and when you consider it was not the worst roster at the end…that is good!
Brad Idzik has shown some good things as the OC (Canales is an offensive focused coach as well), this offense should feel good after Bryce Young’s second starting stint and the QB. Ejiro Evero had some hype a year ago at this time, so I still gave some points on that, but last years group wasn’t the best (though it dealt with a lot of injuries).
T-26 – Chicago Bears
Head Coach: Ben Johnson (T-26th)
Offensive Coordinator: Declan Doyle (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Dennis Allen (T-15th)
I feel good about thinking Ben Johnson will make this Bears offense better and that he has sounded good after getting hired. That is another way of saying he has not done anything as a head coach yet.
Declan Doyle comes from Denver as their TE’s coach, its interesting Ben didn’t get someone from Detroit. Put a pin in that one. Dennis Allen was most certainly not a good head coach (16th worst win percentage all time), but he has been a successful defensive coach for years so that must be worth something.
T-28 – Jacksonville Jaguars
Head Coach: Liam Coen (T-28th)
Offensive Coordinator: Grant Udinski (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Anthony Campanile (NR)
DUVALLLLL! I also read it that way in my mind lol. Okay, Liam seems entertaining at least, so he might be able to get the attention of his team early and get that buy in which is so important from a team.
I don’t know much about Udinski (outside of his fun last name), but he came from Minnesota so it will be interesting how much of KOC’s play style is used versus McVay’s, where Coen directly came from (as similar as they may seem, they aren’t 100%). I don’t feel as good about the Anthony Campanile hire, he has the one good Green Bay defense this year but outside of that he hasn’t been around impressive teams.
T-28 – New York Jets
Head Coach: Aaron Glenn (T-28th)
Offensive Coordinator: Tanner Engstrand (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Steve Wilks (NR)
Aaron Glenn seems to have some juice to him. His Detroit defenses were usually competitive, but they never really reached a top 5 peak consistently. When you hire a DC as head coach, it feels like you want at least that.
Hiring a Detroit passing game coordinator seems positive. Jared Goff looked a lot better when he got in this offense, so there seems to be something that works. Steve Wilks is one of the least exciting hires of the 2024 offseason. I didn’t think he showed enough in San Francisco, and he got hired over by Bob Saleh.
30 – New Orleans Saints
Head Coach: Kellen Moore (T-30th)
Offensive Coordinator: Doug Nussmeier (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Brandon Staley (T-15th)
Kellen Moore has lived a long and quick life in the NFL. He was an OC in 3 different places (Dallas, Los Angeles & Philadelphia), and coached 3 very different types of quarterbacks to decent success. If anything, he showed he is very adaptable to the skills around him.
Didn’t have many takes on Doug, looks like he follows Kellen wherever he goes. He also looks like off-brand Dabo Swinney. Brandon Staley was at one point a good DC so I let’s say there is a chance here.
T-32nd – Tennessee Titans
Head Coach: Brian Calahan (T-30th)
Offensive Coordinator: Nick Holz (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Dennard Wilson (NR)
Brian was dealt a tough hand last year. He was given Will Levis & Mason Rudolph and was asked to win games? Yeah, let’s see what happens if they get a competent QB this offseason.
Hiring a Jaguars passing game coordinator when the Jaguars didn’t have a good passing game? Oh boy. Dennard Wilson might be a better hope, I thought the Titans defense played hard to start the year, but it fell apart quick.
T-32nd – Dallas Cowboys
Head Coach: Brian Schottenheimer (32nd)
Offensive Coordinator: Klayton Adams (NR)
Defensive Coordinator: Matt Eberflus (T-9th)
It’s that point in the article where I have to sound excited about the 32nd ranked team. Okay…Schotty is a pro, seen a lot of different situations and always seems to have a job.
Klayton Adams has coached many good position groups in Indianapolis & Arizona, so maybe he can bring some expertise in here to make Dak’s life better. Matt Eberflus was not a good head coach, but he typically had a good defense, and it was more the offense disappointing.
Fin
Well we made it, if you read the whole article I am sorry you did that. I hope you found some of what you read enjoyable though! If you did it would be great if you could subscribe and reach out on what you agreed and disagreed with about these rankings 😊 my next article will most likely be looking at my college basketball model and which teams look juicy!
